How Utiliy articles are researched, updated, and monetized.

Utiliy exists to help people solve real technical problems. This page is how the sausage is made.
Research and testing
Tutorials are written from hardware I own or can sit in front of. Command output is from those machines unless it is labeled as an example.
Product write-ups reflect at least two weeks of use. For subscriptions, I say whether I paid or used a trial.
Writing
I do not publish unedited machine-generated drafts. Outlines are fine. The published text, diagrams, and failure notes are edited by me.
Updates
When a guide goes stale, I change the article and add a dated Update log at the bottom.
If you report an error, I check it within 7 days and either fix the post or explain why the original still applies.
Advertising and affiliates
The site may show Google AdSense after approval. Affiliate links, if any, are marked near the first mention.
I have turned down programs that required a positive review.
Reader mail can inspire a new article, with permission. I do not publish private emails without consent.
